Members of BT's Data Integrity Team in Leeds have been inspired by Josh's tragic story to raise money for the charity.

The team choose a charity every year, and had decided to support attempts to get a dedicated children's and maternity hospital in the Leeds area.

However, this appeal was at too early a stage to be seeking donations, but Jonathan Abbott, one of the co-ordinators, replied to their e-mail.

Team member Angela Linnie said: “Jonathan told us about his son Joshua and we were so moved by his e-mail we decided to donate the money raised to this very worthy charity as the fundraising for the proposed dedicated Children's and Maternity Hospital in Leeds may not be for some time yet.”

The Data Integrity Team raised £830 by holding raffles, tombolas and theme days.

The cheque was presented to Jonathan in a ceremony at the team’s base, Basinghall Telephone Exchange in January 2004.

“We were pleased to help such a very worthy charity,” said Angela.
